Jamaica, Haiti, Cuba Need Us NOW

Jamaica holds a special place in my heart and soul, and I know I'm not alone in feeling this way. The last time I was in Kingston was 1993, performing at Reggae Sunsplash. Though years have passed, through the music, I'm always connected to its waters and its people.

Deep inside, I know Jamaica will rise again. Too many people around the world have been blessed by its richness, its resilience, its humor, its music, its spirit. Jamaicans are strong, and they will rebuild.

But Jamaica isn't alone in this devastation. Hurricane Melissa has ravaged Haiti and Cuba as well. This Category 5 monster hit with sustained winds of 185 mph, beyond even the maximum Cat 5 threshold of 175 mph. Too many have suffered. Too many have lost everything.

Those of us who understand the climate crisis know this will happen again and again unless humanity changes course. I wrote "World Is Burning" about this very reality, the urgency of our moment, the need to act before it's too late.

We need to go beyond prayers. We need to donate to these islands. No amount is too small. Every dollar helps rebuild homes, lives, and communities.

I remember when Hurricane Andrew nearly destroyed my house. Community love is vital. Let's show up for Jamaica, Haiti, and Cuba the way they've shown up for the world through their culture, music, and spirit.
